Alton

 

The SIU Alton Family Medicine Residency Program, SIU’s newest residency program, is located in the historic Mississippi River city of Alton, Illinois, not far from St. Louis, Missouri.  We are an unopposed, community-based program developed in collaboration with Alton Memorial Hospital (a BJC HealthCare hospital) and Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation (SIHF Healthcare), both of which have a long history of serving the community.

Our program has a strong focus on community outreach and engagement, features excellent inpatient and outpatient educational opportunities, office-based procedural training, leadership skill development, and has the enthusiastic support of the medical community in the area.  As part of the founding class of residents, you will have the unique opportunity to put your own stamp on the SIU Alton program that will influence it for years to come!

Carbondale

 

Carbondale, Illinois is an ideal location for someone looking for a more rural setting to learn Family Medicine. Our primary affiliation hospital, SIH Carbondale Memorial Hospital (Southern Illinois Healthcare), has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Reuters. The award is a testament to the quality of care Carbondale Memorial Hospital provides and the expertise of the hospital's caregivers. This award means that Carbondale Memorial Hospital is among the best hospitals in the United States.

Osteopathic recognition is an added qualification for our Carbondale Family Medicine residency program. This program also supports an accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship. Our mission is to train outstanding family physicians and we accomplish this in an atmosphere of mutual trust and cooperation in our unopposed, community-based Family Medicine residency program.

The SIU Decatur Family Medicine Residency Program believes in preserving the tradition of full-spectrum Family Medicine, while preparing residents to be the family physicians of tomorrow.  We have served the Decatur, Illinois community since 1978 and now provide services as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) affiliated with Decatur Memorial Hospital.
 
We have structured curricula in wellness, behavioral science, and point of care ultrasound (POCUS). Our didactics utilize innovative teaching techniques, including simulation and procedural workshops, while our structured scholarly activity curriculum has led to each of our residents publishing and presenting at regional and national conferences. Our residents graduate with the skills of a well-balanced full-spectrum family physician.

Quincy

 

The educational experience offered at SIU Family Medicine Residency Program in Quincy, Illinois, including a Sports Medicine Fellowship, is set in a beautiful rural area along the Mississippi River. Our unopposed residency program is dedicated to the principles and practice of Family Medicine. 

SIU Center for Family Medicine - Quincy, is conveniently located just a across the street from the main Blessing Hospital campus in Quincy, Illinois. The office is designed to promote comprehensive continuous family care. The staff are trained to understand that the function of the family unit has a significant impact on health and illness. Osteopathic recognition is an added qualification for our Quincy Family Medicine residency program as well. In this complete and congenial setting, the resident learns the team approach to family care, efficiently utilizing community resources, consultations, referrals and office resources.

Springfield

 

The SIU Family Medicine Residency Program in Springfield is a university-based program that provides each resident with the skills needed to be a leader during this time of health care evolution. Our goal is to provide a strong faculty mentor program for ongoing formative feedback and evaluation, as well as to enhance self-directed learning skills. 

The program has a strong OB-GYN track and allows for couples match if your spouse is also in residency. Osteopathic recognition is an added qualification for our Springfield Family Medicine residency program as well. 

SIU Center for Family Medicine in Springfield is located just a few blocks from both Memorial Medical Center and HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. The SIU Center for Family Medicine Clinic is 60,000 square feet and across the street from a new YMCA building.

What is the interview process like?

The Family Medicine residency interview process starts with the application. We participate in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS application). Graduates of a U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical school, contact your Dean’s Office for assistance with your electronic residency application. International medical school graduates can apply through the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
